Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal information this website collects, why, and the choices and rights you have. It is written to align with South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

1. Who we are

This website is operated by Dr Esther Marloth (“we”, “us”), author of A Complete Guide to Identify and Support Barriers to Learning. For any privacy question you can reach us at esthermarloth@gmail.com. We are the responsible party (POPIA) / data controller (GDPR) for the personal information described below.

2. What information we collect

We only collect information that you choose to give us, plus limited technical data needed to run the site securely.

  • Newsletter sign-up: your email address, when you submit the “Join the list” form.
  • Enquiries: your name, email address and the content of your message (and any details you add) when you use the contact form or email us directly.
  • Technical data: standard information your browser sends to the hosting server (such as IP address, browser type and pages requested) which may appear in server logs.

We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you are a parent contacting us about a child, please share only what is necessary for your enquiry.

3. How we use your information

  • To reply to your enquiries about the book, bulk orders, talks, seminars or professional collaboration.
  • To send the resources you asked for — workshop dates, short educational videos and new learning-support material — if you joined the list.
  • To maintain the security and reliability of the website.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for automated decision-making or profiling.

4. Our legal basis

We process your information on the basis of your consent, which you give when you submit a form or email us, and on our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries and running the website. You can withdraw consent at any time (see Your rights).

5. Sharing and service providers

We keep your information confidential and only share it with the service providers who help us operate the site, acting on our instructions:

  • Form handling: our contact and newsletter forms are processed by Formspree, which delivers submissions to our email inbox.
  • Website hosting and email: our hosting and email providers process data on our behalf to deliver the site and our correspondence.

When you click a purchase link, you leave this site for a third-party retailer (for example Takealot, Amazon or Everand). Those retailers are independent and handle your information under their own privacy policies. We may disclose information if required by law.

6. Cookies and analytics

This website is a simple, static site and does not set advertising or tracking cookies, and we do not run third-party analytics on it. If we add analytics or other cookies in future, we will update this policy and, where required, ask for your consent first. Third-party sites you link to may use their own cookies.

7. How long we keep it

We keep enquiry correspondence only as long as needed to deal with your request and for a reasonable period afterwards. We keep newsletter details until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove them. We then delete or anonymise the information unless the law requires us to keep it longer.

8. Your rights

Subject to applicable law, you have the right to:

  • ask whether we hold information about you, and request access to it;
  • request correction of inaccurate information, or deletion of your information;
  • object to or request restriction of processing, and withdraw consent at any time;
  • unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time by contacting us.

To exercise any of these, email esthermarloth@gmail.com. If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, you may lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa) at inforegulator.org.za, or with your local data-protection supervisory authority in the EU/EEA.

9. Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we act promptly if a breach affects your information.
